That's a Tecate and lime cocktail, a mix that Mexican restaurants use in margaritas or "tequila shots."
Texas residents in San Antonio and elsewhere in the state will now have a chance to sample a New Orleans-style version of the drink on March 6 as part of a new local campaign aimed at raising awareness of the city’s signature drink.
The tequila-lime cocktail, dubbed the “Bourbon Lime,” is being introduced by La Piccola, a San Antonio-based Tex-Mex restaurant with locations in San Antonio, Corpus Christi and Houston. The goal of the campaign is to educate people about tequila, and introduce them to its favorite new cocktail partner: lime.
La Piccola plans to kick off the “Bourbon Lime” campaign on March 6 by introducing the new drink on March 6 on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
The campaign has also launched an online petition to convince the mayor of New Orleans to rename the cocktail the “San Antonio Lime.”
The Bourbon Lime is made by cutting an actual lime into quarters, squeezing the juice into a glass, then adding tequila, Coca-Cola and a squeeze of lime. The resulting drink is served on the rocks, with two shots of tequila in each serving.
The tequila part of the drink is the key element, according to the restaurant. In San Antonio, the drink is usually made with Patron Silver or Blanco tequila.
“There are so many great drinks out there, but tequila has been overlooked,” says Deana Allen, director of communications at La Piccola. “We wanted to bring tequila and lime together in a drink. And to me, it’s the perfect margarita or ‘tequila shot.’”
La Piccola's Bourbon Lime is the latest addition to the Tex-Mex restaurant's “Tequila Shots” line of margaritas and drinks. The restaurant has also created the Tequila Shots, including the Thai Boozy Shark Tequila Shots and the Cucumber Cooler Tequila Shots.
