1. From the desktop, open a blank document, or start a program, such as Internet Explorer. If you have AOL, click the Home button on your toolbar (this takes you to the Start screen), type a search term, and then select your Web browser from the search results. If your computer has been frozen, try closing all programs and restarting your computer.
2. If your computer has not been frozen, try one of the following:
a. If you are using Windows XP, your computer may be infected by a spyware, adware or a virus that is
causing the problem. If you have spyware, adware or a virus on your computer, call your computer
solution provider for help removing it.
b. If you have recently received a new printer, printer or fax machine, make sure it is properly
connected and turned on.
c. If your computer is overheating, disconnect any unnecessary hardware. If the problem still
occurs, turn off all unnecessary hardware, reboot your computer, and then reconnect the
hardware.
d. If you are using a different operating system than Windows XP, try one of the following:
1. If your computer is running a different operating system than Windows XP, reboot your computer.
2. If you do not want to completely reboot your computer, open your computer case, and press the
on/off switch, then wait for about 15 to 20 seconds, and then check your computer manual to see
if there is a manual reset.
3. If you are using a Mac, call the Apple Service Center for help.
4. To restart your computer and start a new session, click the Power icon on your computer
desktop, and then select Restart.
